A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HOSTED ME DURING MY FILMING JOURNEY July 1 to Jan. 8, 2014

Thank you!!!  for Hosting me, I couldn’t have done the Europe filming without you!!

Merry Christmas, a special Happy Holidays greeting,
and a cheery hello from Europe where I am celebrating Christmas with some dear friends in Belgium.

In May, my sisters and I lost our dear mother to cancer. In late June, after our celebration of her life, I left Hawaii and started traveling with one goal in mind . . . to finish my film about jazz artist, the late Thomas Chapin.
PictureHosts Mike and Carmella Dodge in Scotsdale, AZ. Thanks also to Patty and Bill Sette, and to Rob Kaplan and Tom Eldridge.
Traveling with only three suitcases, I found my "home" among dear friends and sometimes cherished new ones, and with family who hosted me with great love, wonderful meals and generous help.

This special letter of thanks goes out to all of my Hosts. Without you, I could not have accomplished all that I have for my film project.

Sorry I can't show a picture of all of you hosts, but here are a few to represent the kindness I met everywhere I went.

With ever stop, I had a chance to work on my film. From Phoenix, AZ where I first landed, then on to Florida, Washington DC, and England where I stayed the longest as I prepared to travel to Belgium, France, Italy, Germany and Holland for my film interviews.

Duncan Norris on the left, and his friends became my family during my two-plus months in Burton-on-Trent where I worked on my Europe trip to film interviews for my film on Thomas Chapin. In London, thanks to the CB Bently family for hosting me there.
In Brussels where my friends Frans and Gilbert hosted me, I repacked my suitcases, leaving the big ones and traveling light on my month-long Europe train journey.

So many wonderful adventures started to unfold as I began my filming, including a wonderful cameraman from Amsterdam and all those I interviewed.

MY HOSTS DURING THE FILMING IN EUROPE

IN PARIS

Here is my Paris host/production assistant, Antoinette Daniels, my cameraman Igor Andreevski and interviewee Romain Fitoussi, a French musician who never met Thomas but was inspired by him and who hosted for me a hommage to Thomas in a famous Paris jazz club.

IN TOULON in southern France, my hosts, the Maze sisters Marie-Francoises and Marie-Luce, also helped with translation and production assistance, and took me out for a Sunday lunch at their family's favorite restaurant, a treat by their father Michel Maze of Annapolis, MD.

IN MILAN, ITALY musicians Stefano Leonardi and Stefano Pastor hosted my cameraman and me with a hotel stay and a wonderful lunch before we recorded their interviews in the famous jazz studio, Mu.Records. Inspired by Thomas, they released this year a CD, CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THOMAS CHAPIN. They don’t live in Milano but travelled hours to make our interview date. The reviews of their CD have been great!

IN KOLN, GERMANY I reunited with old friends Alfons and Annette Muller who hosted me in Koln. This was taken on a vacation we shared in Spain in 1998.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED,
THANKS TO YOU ALL!

For all of you who did so much to show me around, take me out to dinner or to a Christmas market, buy me a croissant and a cup of coffee, share your home and gave me a place to stay, and most importantly made my trip to Europe to film my interviews such a fun adventure, I send the warmest hug with lots of Christmas and Happy Holiday joy. Remembering your kindness always, and looking forward to keeping in touch. With hopes of seeing you again and with my finished film,
Stephanie the vagabond filmmaker.

IN HOLLAND,
the Evert Oudenes family hosted me in their lovely country home in Beusichem. Evert also was my production assistant, photographer, and researcher. I met him and Emmy on Facebook, after Evert donated to my film. Evert took 3 days off from his job to work with me.
